OAA Basics & Federal Requirements
The Older Americans Act (OAA) is a federal law that authorizes grants to states for community planning and social services, research and development projects, and training in the field of aging services.
Title III-C of the OAA authorizes nutrition services for older adults to:
- Reduce hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition
- Enhance socialization
- Promote health and well-being; by assisting them in gaining access to nutrition and other disease prevention and health promotion services and to delay the onset of adverse health conditions resulting from poor nutritional health or sedentary behavior
