One of the core activities of the National Caregiver Support Collaborative (NCSC) Technical Assistance and Coordinating Center (TACC) is collecting and disseminating caregiver assessment best practices as outlined in Section 373(j) of the Older Americans Act. Strong caregiver assessment practices can facilitate more effective care planning and access to services and supports for caregivers. The TACC curates evidence-based, evidence-informed, and innovative best practices that include state and local efforts to implement caregiver assessments in the National Family Caregiver Support Program, Native American Caregiver Support Program, and related programs.

NCSC Checklist for Caregiver Assessments
The NCSC Checklist for Caregiver Assessments provides a self-guided roadmap for aging, tribal and kinship networks to advance the use of caregiver assessments in Older Americans Act (OAA) caregiver programs. The checklist aims to fully capture the range of caregivers’ needs, match caregivers to services, and ensure these services effectively address their needs.
Caregiver Assessment Profile Series
The NCSC’s Caregiver Assessment Profiles highlight current evidence-based, evidence-informed, and innovative assessments designed to support family, kin, and tribal caregivers. The purpose of this series is to inform states, aging networks, and tribal networks about promising practices for developing and conducting caregiver assessments. Each profile provides an overview of an assessment, highlighting key components; follow-up, evaluation, and training processes; and funding sources.
