Accessible Autonomous Transportation in Rural Minnesota— Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. ET
Speakers: Heidi Corcoran, Plum Catalyst, and Myrna Peterson, ATRC Steering Committee
This session highlights the innovative work behind goMARTI (Minnesota’s Accessible Rural Transit Innovations), a first-of-its-kind project testing connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) technology in a rural setting with a winter climate. Centered in Grand Rapids, MN, goMARTI is a community-driven project focused on providing safe, accessible, and sustainable mobility options through a thoughtfully designed service model.
The current goMARTI fleet consists of hybrid autonomous vehicles with trained operators in the driver’s seat to ensure safety while actively testing the technology in real-world rural conditions. As part of the upcoming goMARTI 2.0 expansion launching this fall, the fleet will grow to include hybrid electric and fully electric vehicles — marking a significant step forward in sustainable rural transit.
The service also includes wheelchair-accessible vehicles, reinforcing goMARTI’s commitment to inclusive transportation solutions. This presentation will explore the project’s expansion, community engagement strategies, and its role in building a scalable model to support rural and tribal communities as they prepare for the future of mobility.
