The ATRC Steering Committee is a group of 20 accessible transportation advocates from across the country who guide ATRC’s development and dissemination activities. The Steering Committee plays a pivotal role in building awareness and encouraging the adoption of accessible transportation strategies, inclusive planning, and Mobility on Demand. The meaningful inclusion of diverse older adults and people with disabilities and the insights, knowledge, opinions, and recommendations that riders and would-be transportation users bring to the table are critical to the success of the ATRC.
The most recent ATRC Steering Committee meeting was held on May 6, 2024. Thirteen of the twenty committee members attended the meeting in Washington, DC and six joined virtually. Staff from the Administration for Community Living (ACL), the Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment, and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) were also in attendance.
During the meeting, the Steering Committee refined ATRC’s definition of accessible transportation, including essential elements like reliability, ease of access to information, and an accessible complete trip from origin to destination. The committee also discussed the six priority areas identified at the first committee meeting in November 2023: reliable paratransit, access to knowledge and information, technology, travel away from home, the first mile/last mile problem, and the economy and accessible transportation.
