International Day of Persons with Disabilities

December 3, 2016

Today we join President Obama(link is external) and communities around the world in observing the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). The IDPD was first proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992 to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities. The theme of this year's commemoration, “Sustainable Development: The Promise of Technology,” highlights the important role technology plays in ensuring that people with disabilities achieve full inclusion in every aspect of community life.
