Third Webinar in the OAA Final Rule Back to Basics Series: Title III/VI Coordination

May 9, 2024

Thursday, May 23, 2024 | 3:00-4:30 PM ET
Register for the webinar

Title VI of the Older Americans Act (OAA) authorizes grants for nutrition and supportive services to American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian elders to help them live full lives in their communities and grants for services to support family caregivers.

Title III of the OAA authorizes grants to state units on aging (SUAs) and area agencies on aging (AAAs) for supportive, nutrition, health promotion, and family caregiver services for eligible older adults and family caregivers, including tribal elders and family caregivers. Title III services are to be provided to those in greatest economic need and greatest social need, the definition of which includes Native American identity.

Aging network entities are required to coordinate between Title III and Title VI programs and identify how coordination is being operationalized through planning, policies and procedures, and communication, ultimately resulting in culturally appropriate supports and services for tribal elders and family caregivers. The OAA law — and the new OAA final rule — contain requirements for coordination between Title III and Title VI programs.

This webinar will focus on:

  • Reasons to coordinate.
  • Responsibilities of SUAs, AAAs, service providers, and Title VI grantees for coordination.
  • Coordination for local emergency management and disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
  • Policy and procedure requirements.
  • Best practices for coordination.

ASL and CART will be provided. If you need other accommodations to participate, please contact marcia.gordon@acl.hhs.gov. More information can be found on ACL.gov/OAArule.

This webinar outlines key requirements of grantees as partners in carrying out the mission of the OAA and serves as an enduring training tool for new staff and will be recorded. Tribal leaders, SUA, AAA, and Title VI program staff are especially encouraged to attend.
