The Cancer Information Service (CIS) is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) contact center that provides free, confidential, and compassionate answers to anyone with questions about cancer. Whether it’s a patient seeking more information on a diagnosis or a concerned family member or friend who wants to know more, CIS provides accurate information and support.
- Get the answers you can count on: CIS uses trusted databases and resources to provide personalized responses to questions. CIS information specialists can also assist in finding clinical trials for specific cancers. CIS can answer your questions about cancer risk, prevention, and screening; clinical trials; latest treatment options; and coping and supportive care.
- Get the support you need: CIS provides information and referrals to organizations that offer emotional and economic support to people facing a cancer diagnosis. Referral information comes from a well-vetted list of national organizations.
- Get help quitting smoking: CIS provides free, confidential counseling and support for anyone who wants to quit smoking for good. CIS can provide a variety of resources, including local support groups and self-help materials. Smoking cessation counselors are available via phone and online chat.
