Accelerating boosters to support safe visitation for long-term care residents

Recording and materials are now available courtesy of The Consumer Voice: watch on YouTube and download a list of resources presented during the webinar.

Friday, February 4, 3:30pm ET

Please join ACL and the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care for a discussion of COVID-19 boosters as a way to support safe visitation and promote family connections for residents of long-term care facilities.

The CDC recommends booster shots for everyone 12 and older to help keep up the protection provided by COVID-19 vaccines. Boosters are especially important for people who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities because of their increased risk of both infection and serious illness or death due to COVID-19. However, although the majority of nursing home residents completed initial vaccinations, fewer have received boosters, leaving residents at increased risk.

The webinar will explore the important role families play in residents’ decisions to get boosters and how families can help their loved ones get fully protected. It also will discuss strategies for ACL’s networks to effectively engage families on the importance of boosters. Speakers from CMS and the White House COVID-19 Response Team also will share the latest information on boosters.

Speakers include:

  • Alison Barkoff, Principal Deputy Administrator, Administration for Community Living
  • Lori Smetanka, Executive Director, National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care
  • Dr. Cameron Webb, Senior Policy Advisor for Equity on the White House COVID-19 Team
  • Evan Shulman, Director, Division of Nursing Homes, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
  • Mark Miller, President, National Association of State LTC Ombudsman Programs

American Sign Language and CART will be provided. Please contact Marcia Gordon at marcia.gordon@acl.hhs.gov by Wednesday, Feb. 2 if you need any other accommodations to participate.
