ACL is pleased to announce the first round of 2021 awards for its state and community Alzheimer's Disease Programs Initiative (ADPI). The 11 newly awarded, three-year cooperative agreements are with one state and 10 community organizations for a total of $10,618,781. The grantee programs are located in nine states and one territory across the nation.
More than 5 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias (ADRD). As the population of older adults increases, researchers anticipate the number of people living with ADRD will nearly triple by 2050. ACL’s ADPI program is dedicated meeting this challenge by developing dementia capability in states and expanding it in communities.
The programs will engage in a range of activities designed to meet the needs of the communities and individuals they serve. Programs target long-term services and supports to persons living with ADRD, as well their caregivers. While each program is different, all will include activities designed to support special populations, including low-income and ethnically and culturally diverse communities, people with ADRD who live alone, and individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are at risk of developing a dementia.

- OCCK, Inc. (KS)
- Senior Services, Inc. (NC)
- Sugar Free Living (PR)
- Alzheimer's Greater Los Angeles (CA)
All of the new grantees are required to dedicate 50 percent of their funds to direct services that include, but are not limited to, delivery of home and community-based dementia specific evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions and dementia education and training programs. Grantees are tasked with developing and delivering program activities with expectations for their sustainability beyond the life of the grant.
This award is the first of two ADPI grant opportunities for 2021. ACL released a second ADPI funding opportunity in June. Applications for that grant are due on August 2, 2021.
