The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (Ombudsman program) serves individuals living in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes, board and care (including assisted living), and similar settings and works to resolve resident problems related to poor care, violation of rights, and quality of life. States' Ombudsman programs also advocate at the local, state, and national levels to promote policies and consumer protections to improve residents’ care and quality of life.

In accordance with the Older Americans Act, these programs collect and report data to the Administration for Community Living (ACL). This data collection, known as the National Ombudsman Reporting System (NORS), describes problems experienced by long-term care facility residents, the activities of the Ombudsman program, and other administrative data.

The AGing Integrated Database (AGID) is an online query system based on ACL-related data files and surveys. It includes population characteristics from the Census Bureau for comparison purposes. AGID displays NORS data and provides different levels of focus and aggregation, from individual data elements to full database access.

Participants will learn about the Ombudsman program as well as NORS data and its uses to inform policy and practice. The session will include a live presentation of AGID.

Featured Speakers:

  • Louise Ryan, MPA, Ombudsman Program Specialist, ACL
  • Natalie Boonchaisri, MPH, The Lewin Group
